Metal D-handle ATLAS of ash wood, bent handle with a metal D-grip, length 85 cm. The comfortable YD-grip of this handle consists of a strong metal bracket fitted with an ash wood handgrip. This handle is often used together with a potato fork, beet fork, silage fork, rubble fork or a grain shovel.

ATLAS metal D-handles are made from ash rootstocks, which contain the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-absorbing and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process sawn ash wood boards are air-dried. During the second process the ash wood is re-dried in a climate chamber under computer control. By re-drying the handle does not shrink and tools remain firmly attached to the handle.

Next the ATLAS shovel handles are bent in boiling water. This causes the wood grain or fiber in the handle to bend along and prevents the grain from running out of the handle (a running-out grain is weaker). The bending process makes the handle extremely strong.

Finally the ATLAS handle is waxed with the plant-based Carnauba. This allows the wood to breathe, prevents it from absorbing water or dirt and preserves the beautiful natural colour. Waxing ensures a longer life and a pleasant smooth handle, which prevents blisters. Moreover, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
