metal D-handle ATLAS of ash wood, bent handle with a metal D-handle, length 110 cm. The comfortable metal D-handle of this handle consists of a strong metal bracket fitted with an ash wood handgrip. This handle is often used together with a potato fork, beet fork, silage fork, rubble fork or a grain shovel.

ATLAS metal D-handles are made from ash rootstocks, which contain the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-absorbing and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process sawn ash planks are air-dried. During the second process the ash wood is re-dried in a climate chamber under computer control. By re-drying the handle does not shrink, and tools remain firmly fixed to the handle.

Next the ATLAS shovel handles are bent in boiling water. This causes the wood grain in the handle to bend along and prevents the grain from running out of the handle (a running-out grain is weaker). The bending process makes the handle extremely strong.

Finally the ATLAS handle is waxed with plant-based Carnauba. This ensures that the wood can breathe, does not absorb water or dirt and retains its beautiful natural color. Waxing provides a longer service life and a pleasant smooth handle, preventing blisters. Moreover, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
