Plastic D-handle ATLAS made of ash wood, bent handle with a plastic D-grip, length 95 cm. The comfortable plastic D-grip of this handle consists of a strong plastic grip fitted with an ash wood handpiece. This handle is often used together with a grain shovel, ballast shovel or rubble fork.

ATLAS plastic D-handles are made from ash rootstocks, which contain the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-absorbing and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process sawn ash planks are air-dried. During the second process the ash wood is re-dried in a climate chamber controlled by computer. Because of the re-drying the handle does not shrink and the tool remains firmly fixed to the handle.

Subsequently the ATLAS plastic D-handles are bent in boiling water. This causes the wood grain or fibers in the handle to follow the bend and prevents the grain from running out of the handle (a running-out grain is weaker). The bending process makes the handle extremely strong.

Finally the ATLAS handle is waxed with plant-based Carnauba wax. This ensures the wood can breathe, does not absorb water or dirt and retains its nice natural pale color. The waxing provides a longer service life and a pleasant smooth handle, which prevents blisters. Moreover, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
