Splitting maul handle or splitting axe handle ATLAS made of ash wood, with head size 52 x 32 mm and length 90 cm. Due to the oval shape of the handle, the axe head always sits in the correct striking direction. For mounting the handle two metal hammer wedges no. 4a with article number 651455 are recommended.

ATLAS splitting maul handles are made from ash rootstocks, which contain the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-absorbing and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process sawn ash wood planks are air-dried. During the second process the ash wood is re-dried in a climate chamber under computer control. By re-drying the handle does not shrink and the axe head remains firmly attached to the handle.

Next the ATLAS handle is waxed with plant-based carnauba wax. This ensures that the wood can breathe, does not absorb water or dirt and retains its attractive natural colour. Waxing provides a longer lifespan and a pleasant smooth handle, preventing blisters. Moreover, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
