Metal D-handle ATLAS of ash wood, bent handle with metal D-grip, length 95 cm. The comfortable YD-grip of this handle consists of a strong metal bracket fitted with an ash wood handgrip. This handle is often used together with a potato fork, beet fork, silage fork, debris fork or a grain shovel.

ATLAS metal D-handles are made from ash wood rootstocks, which contain the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-absorbing and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process sawn ash wood planks are air-dried. During the second process the ash wood is re-dried in a climate-controlled chamber by computer. Because of the re-drying the handle does not shrink, and tools remain firmly attached to the handle.

Subsequently the ATLAS shovel handles are bent in boiling water. This makes the wood grain or fiber in the handle follow the bend and prevents the grain from running out of the handle (a running-out grain is weaker). The bending process makes the handle extremely strong.

Finally the ATLAS handle is waxed with plant-based Carnauba. This ensures the wood can breathe, does not absorb water or dirt and retains its beautiful natural color. Waxing provides a longer service life and a pleasant smooth handle, preventing blisters. Moreover, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
