ATLAS sledgehammer handle made of hickory wood, with head size 40 x 26 mm and length 90 cm, suitable for sledgehammers of 3 kg. Due to the oval shape of the handle the hammer head always aligns in the correct striking orientation. For mounting the handle a metal hammer wedge no. 4A with article number 651455 is recommended.
Hickory is a heavy, hard American wood species that is even stronger than ash wood. Hickory wood is particularly tough, shock-resistant and resilient. The ATLAS hickory handle is also waxed with plant-based carnauba. This allows the wood to breathe, prevents it from absorbing water or dirt, and preserves the attractive natural pale colour. The waxing ensures a longer lifespan and a pleasant smooth handle, which prevents blisters. Moreover, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than the use of varnish or paraffin.
ATLAS hickory sledgehammer handles are, for the most part, manufactured energy-neutral in the Netherlands and are available in various versions.
