Pickaxe handle or piochesteel ATLAS, round, made of ash wood, with head size 50 mm and length 90 cm. Suitable for pickaxes with a round hole. No wedge is required to mount this tapered handle.
ATLAS pickaxe handles are made from ash rootstocks; these contain the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-absorbing and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process sawn ash wood planks are air-dried. During the second process the ash wood is computer-controlled re-dried in a climate chamber. By re-drying the handle does not shrink and the tool head remains firmly attached to the handle.
Next the ATLAS handle is waxed with plant-based Carnauba wax. This ensures that the wood can breathe, does not absorb water or dirt and retains its beautiful natural light color. The waxing provides a longer service life and a pleasant smooth handle, preventing blisters. Moreover, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
ATLAS pickaxe handles are manufactured entirely energy-neutral in the Netherlands and are available in various lengths and versions.
