Hickory is a heavy and hard American timber that is even stronger than ash wood. Hickory wood is particularly tough, shock-resistant and resilient. The ATLAS hickory handle is also waxed with plant-based carnauba. This ensures the wood can breathe, does not absorb water or dirt, and retains its beautiful natural color. Waxing provides a longer service life and a pleasant smooth handle, which prevents blisters. Moreover, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
