Hickory is a heavy, hard American wood species that is even stronger than ash wood. Hickory wood is particularly tough, shock-resistant and resilient. The ATLAS hickory handle is also waxed with plant-based carnauba. This allows the wood to breathe, prevents it from absorbing water or dirt, and preserves the attractive natural pale colour. The waxing ensures a longer lifespan and a pleasant smooth handle, which prevents blisters. Moreover, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than the use of varnish or paraffin.
