ATLAS shovel handle made of ash wood, bent T-handle in a length of 130 cm, with a strong through-mount T-grip. A shovel handle is often used together with a digging shovel, concrete shovel, scoop shovel, or a cable shovel.
ATLAS shovel handles are made from ash rootstock, which contains the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-absorbing, and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process, sawn ash wood boards are air-dried. During the second process, the ash wood is computer-controlled re-dried in a climate chamber. Because of the re-drying, the handle does not shrink, the tool stays firmly attached to the handle, and the through-mount T-grip can be pressed onto the handle without glue or a staple.
Next, the ATLAS shovel handles are bent in boiling water. This causes the wood grain in the handle to bend along with it and prevents the grain from running out of the handle (a running grain is weaker). The bending process makes the handle extremely strong.
Finally, the ATLAS handle is waxed with plant-based carnauba. This allows the wood to breathe, prevents it from absorbing water or dirt, and preserves its beautiful light color. Waxing provides a longer service life and a pleasant smooth handle, helping prevent blisters. In addition, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
ATLAS shovel handles are manufactured entirely energy-neutral in the Netherlands and are available in various lengths and versions.
