ATLAS spade handle made of ash wood, 75 cm in length, equipped with a strong through-mount T-grip and a milled, smooth, narrow point, suitable for a Spear & Jackson spade or ATLAS gooseneck spade. This handle is 5 cm shorter than the original Spear & Jackson spade handle. For assembly, a 40 mm rivet is recommended (item number 651590, including assembly advice).
ATLAS spade handles are made from ash rootstock, which contains the best wood. Ash wood is tough, impact-resistant, and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process, sawn ash wood planks are air-dried. During the second process, the ash wood is kiln-dried in a climate chamber under computer control. Because of this re-drying, the handle does not shrink, the tool stays rock solid on the handle, and the through-mount T-grip can be pressed onto the handle without glue or a staple.
The ATLAS handles are then waxed with the plant-based Carnauba wax. This allows the wood to breathe, prevents it from absorbing water or dirt, and helps retain its beautiful natural color. The waxing extends the service life and creates a pleasantly smooth handle, helping prevent blisters. Moreover, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
ATLAS spade handles are manufactured entirely energy-neutral in the Netherlands and are available in various lengths and versions.
