ATLAS YD-handle made of ash wood, bent handle with a metal D-grip, 85 cm long. The comfortable YD-grip of this handle consists of a strong metal bracket fitted with an ash wood grip. This handle is often used together with a potato fork, beet fork, silage fork, debris fork, or grain shovel.
ATLAS YD-handles are made from ash rootstock; this contains the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-absorbing, and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process, sawn ash wood planks are air-dried. During the second process, the ash wood is computer-controlled re-dried in a climate chamber. Because of the re-drying, the handle does not shrink, and tools stay firmly fixed to the handle.
Next, the ATLAS shovel handles are bent in boiling water. This allows the wood grain or fiber in the handle to bend along with it and prevents the grain from running out of the handle (a running grain is weaker). The bending process makes the handle extremely strong.
Finally, the ATLAS handle is waxed with plant-based carnauba. This allows the wood to breathe, does not absorb water or dirt, and retains its beautiful natural color. The waxing ensures a longer lifespan and a pleasantly smooth handle, helping prevent blisters. In addition, waxing handles with plant-based wax is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
