ATLAS handles are made from lower trunk sections of ash wood, which contain the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-absorbing, and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process the sawn ash wood planks are air-dried. During the second process the ash wood is re-dried in a climate chamber that is computer-controlled. The re-drying ensures the tool stays firmly attached to the handle.
Finally the ATLAS handle is waxed with plant-based carnauba. This allows the wood to breathe, prevents it from absorbing water or dirt, and preserves the beautiful natural color. Waxing extends the product's lifespan and gives a pleasant smooth handle, helping to prevent blisters. Moreover, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
ATLAS handles are manufactured completely energy-neutral in the Netherlands and are available in various lengths.
