Pickaxe handle ATLAS 90 cm oval, head size 50 x 80 mm

Pickaxe handle (piochesteel) ATLAS of ash wood, with head size 80 x 50 mm and length 90 cm. Suitable for pickaxes with a pointed oval hole. Because of the oval shape of the handle the pickaxe always sits in the correct striking direction. No pin or wedge is required to mount this tapered handle.

ATLAS pickaxe handles are made from ash rootstocks, which contain the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-absorbing and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process the sawn ash planks are air-dried. During the second process the ash wood is re-dried in a climate-controlled chamber using computer control. By re-drying the handle does not shrink and the tool head remains firmly seated on the handle.

Next the ATLAS handle is waxed with plant-based Carnauba. This ensures that the wood can breathe, does not absorb water or dirt and retains its attractive natural light color. Waxing provides a longer service life and a pleasant smooth handle, preventing blisters. Moreover, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
