Due to the oval shape of the handle the hammer head is always in the correct striking direction. For mounting the handle two metal hammer wedges no. 4A with article number 651455 are recommended.
Hickory is a heavy and hard American wood species that is even stronger than ash wood. Hickory wood is particularly tough, shock-resistant and resilient. The ATLAS hickory handle is also waxed with plant-based Carnauba. This ensures that the wood can breathe, does not absorb water or dirt and retains its attractive natural pale colour. The waxing provides a longer service life and a pleasant smooth handle, which helps prevent blisters. Moreover, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than the use of varnish or paraffin.
