The aluminium blade is hardened, which prevents premature wear on the underside and cheeks. In addition, the grain shovel is equipped with a sturdy steel wear strip, resulting in less wear on the front of the blade.

ATLAS metal D-handles are made from ash wood rootstock, which contains the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-absorbing, and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes. By redrying, the handle does not shrink, keeping the tool firmly attached to the handle.
Next, the ATLAS metal D-handles are bent in boiling water. This causes the wood grain to bend along with the handle and prevents the grain from running out of the handle (a run-out grain is weaker). The bending process makes the handle extremely strong.
Finally, the ATLAS handle is waxed with plant-based Carnauba. This allows the wood to breathe, prevents it from absorbing water or dirt, and helps it retain its beautiful natural color.
