Forged Pickaxe or Pioche with Oval Ash Wood Handle
ATLAS pickaxe or pioche weighing 2 kg, 50 cm long, made of forged carbon steel, complete with an oval ash wood ATLAS handle measuring 90 cm in length. The pickaxe head has a hardened point on one side and a flat draw hoe 55 mm wide on the other.
The ATLAS pickaxe handle is made from ash rootstocks, which contain the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-absorbing and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes. Because of the controlled re-drying the handle does not shrink, and the tool remains firmly fixed to the handle.
Finally the ATLAS handle is waxed with plant-based carnauba. This ensures the wood can breathe, does not absorb water or dirt, and retains its beautiful natural color.
