ATLAS straight axe handle of ash wood, for a head size 95 x 32 mm and length 90 cm. This straight handle is suitable for heavy forged axes. For mounting the handle the axe wedge set with item number 651815 is recommended (wooden wedge 70 x 80 mm and 2 metal wedges no.4 22 mm).
ATLAS axe handles are made from ash rootstocks, which contain the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-absorbent and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process sawn ash planks are air-dried. During the second process the ash wood is re-dried in a climate chamber under computer control. Because of the re-drying the handle does not shrink and the axe head remains firmly attached to the handle.
Subsequently the ATLAS handle is waxed with plant-based Carnauba. This ensures that the wood can breathe, does not absorb water or dirt and retains its attractive natural light color. Waxing provides a longer service life and a pleasant smooth handle, which prevents blisters. In addition, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than the use of varnish or paraffin.
ATLAS axe handles are manufactured entirely energy-neutral in the Netherlands and are available in various lengths and versions.
