Axe handle ATLAS made of ash wood, with head dimensions 42 x 17 mm and length 35 cm. This bent handle is suitable for an axe with a weight of 600 grams. For mounting the handle the axe wedge set with article number 651810 is recommended (wooden wedge 45 x 60 mm and 2 metal wedges no.2 16 mm).
ATLAS axe handles are made from ash rootstocks, which contain the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-absorbing and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process sawn ash wood boards are air-dried. During the second process the ash wood is re-dried in a climate chamber controlled by computer. Because of the re-drying the handle does not shrink and the axe head remains firmly attached to the handle.
Next the ATLAS handle is waxed with plant-based Carnauba. This ensures the wood can breathe, does not absorb water or dirt, and retains its attractive natural color. Waxing provides a longer service life and a pleasant smooth handle, which prevents blisters. Furthermore, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
ATLAS axe handles are manufactured completely energy-neutral in the Netherlands and are available in various lengths and designs.
