Axe handle ATLAS made of ash wood, with head size 64 x 22 mm and length 60 cm. This bent handle is suitable for an axe with a weight of 1000 or 1250 grams. For mounting the handle the axe wedge set with article number 651810 is recommended (wooden wedge 45 x 60 mm and 2 metal wedges no.2 16 mm).
ATLAS axe handles are made from ash rootstocks, which contain the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-absorbing and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process sawn ash wood planks are air-dried. During the second process the ash wood is re-dried in a climate chamber under computer control. Because of the re-drying the handle does not shrink and the axe head remains firmly attached to the handle.
Next the ATLAS handle is waxed with plant-based carnauba. This ensures the wood can breathe, does not absorb water or dirt and retains its beautiful natural colour. The waxing provides a longer service life and a pleasant, smooth handle that prevents blisters. Moreover, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
ATLAS axe handles are manufactured completely energy-neutral in the Netherlands and are available in various lengths and versions.
