Axe handle ATLAS of ash wood, with head size 65 x 30 mm and length 90 cm. This bent handle is the most commonly used version and is suitable for an axe with a weight of 2000 grams. For mounting the handle the axe wedge set with article number 651815 is recommended (wooden wedge 70 x 80 mm and 2 metal wedges no. 4 22 mm).
ATLAS axe handles are made from ash butt logs; these contain the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-absorbing and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process the sawn ash planks are air-dried. During the second process the ash wood is re-dried in a climate chamber under computer control. Due to the re-drying the handle does not shrink and the axe head remains firmly attached to the handle.
Next the ATLAS handle is waxed with plant-based carnauba. This ensures that the wood can breathe, does not absorb water or dirt and retains its beautiful natural colour. Waxing provides a longer service life and a pleasant smooth handle, preventing blisters. Moreover, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than the use of varnish or paraffin.
ATLAS axe handles are produced in the Netherlands in a completely energy-neutral process and are available in various lengths and versions.
