Hickory is a heavy and hard American wood species that is even stronger than ash wood. Hickory wood is particularly tough, shock-resistant and resilient. The ATLAS hickory handle is also waxed with plant-based Carnauba. This allows the wood to breathe, prevents it from absorbing water or dirt and preserves the attractive natural color. The waxing provides a longer lifespan and a pleasantly smooth handle, helping to prevent blisters. Moreover, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
