Hickory is a heavy, hard American wood species that is even stronger than ash wood. Hickory wood is particularly tough, shock-resistant and resilient. The ATLAS Hickory handle is also waxed with plant-based Carnauba. This ensures that the wood can breathe, does not absorb water or dirt, and retains its beautiful pale color. Waxing provides a longer lifespan and a comfortable smooth handle, thereby preventing blisters. Moreover, the plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
