Spade handle ATLAS made of ash wood with a length of 100 cm, equipped with a strong through-mount T-grip and a milled-in, smooth, narrow point, suitable for a Spear & Jackson spade or ATLAS gooseneck spade. This handle is 15 cm longer than the original Spear & Jackson spade handle. For assembly, a 40 mm rivet is recommended (item number 651590, including assembly advice).
ATLAS spade handles are made from ash tree rootstock, which contains the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-resistant, and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process, sawn ash wood planks are air-dried. During the second process, the ash wood is computer-controlled redried in a climate chamber. Because of the redrying, the handle does not shrink, tools stay rock-solid on the handle, and the through-mount T-grip can be pressed onto the handle without glue or a staple.
Next, the ATLAS handles are waxed with the plant-based Carnauba. This allows the wood to breathe, prevents it from absorbing water or dirt, and preserves its attractive natural color. The waxing ensures a longer service life and a pleasantly smooth handle, helping prevent blisters. In addition, the plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
ATLAS spade handles are entirely manufactured in the Netherlands in a carbon-neutral way and are available in various lengths and designs.
