Spade handle ATLAS made of ash wood with a length of 85 cm, fitted with a T-grip and a recessed, smooth, narrow point, suitable for a Spear & Jackson spade or ATLAS gooseneck spade. This handle is 5 cm longer than the original Spear & Jackson spade handle. For assembly, a 40 mm rivet is recommended (article number 651590, including assembly advice).
ATLAS spade handles are made from ash rootstocks, which contain the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-resistant, and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process, sawn ash wood boards are air-dried. During the second process, the ash wood is computer-controlled kiln-dried in a climate chamber. Because of this drying process, the handle does not shrink and tools stay firmly fixed to the handle.
Next, the ATLAS handles are waxed with plant-based carnauba. This allows the wood to breathe, prevents it from absorbing water or dirt, and preserves its beautiful light color. The waxing provides a longer service life and a pleasantly smooth handle, helping prevent blisters. Moreover, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
ATLAS spade handles are manufactured entirely carbon-neutral in the Netherlands and are available in various lengths and designs.
