Spade handle ATLAS made of ash wood, 90 cm in length, equipped with a strong through-mount T-grip and a smooth, narrow point, suitable, among other things, for a Spear & Jackson spade with a collar. This handle is 10 cm longer than the original Spear & Jackson spade handle. For assembly, a 50 mm rivet is recommended (item number 651620, including assembly advice).
ATLAS spade handles are made from ash wood rootstock, which contains the best wood. Ash wood is tough, impact-resistant, and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process, sawn ash wood boards are air-dried. During the second process, the ash wood is computer-controlled re-dried in a climate chamber. Because of the re-drying, the handle does not shrink, tools stay firmly fixed to the handle, and the through-mount T-grip can be pressed onto the handle without glue or a staple.
The ATLAS handles are then waxed with the plant-based Carnauba. This allows the wood to breathe, prevents it from absorbing water or dirt, and helps it retain its attractive light color. The waxing ensures a longer lifespan and a pleasantly smooth handle, helping prevent blisters. Moreover, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
ATLAS spade handles are manufactured entirely energy-neutral in the Netherlands and are available in various lengths and designs.
