Spade handle ATLAS made of ash wood, 95 cm in length, equipped with a strong through-mount T-grip and a smooth, narrow point, suitable for a Spear & Jackson spade with lip, among other things. This handle is 15 cm longer than the original Spear & Jackson spade handle. For assembly, a 50 mm rivet is recommended (item number 651620, including assembly advice).
ATLAS spade handles are made from ash rootstock, which contains the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-resistant, and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process, sawn ash wood planks are air-dried. During the second process, the ash wood is computer-controlled re-dried in a climate chamber. Because of the re-drying, the handle does not shrink, the tool stays firmly attached to the handle, and the through-mount T-grip can be pressed onto the handle without glue or a nail.
The ATLAS handles are then waxed with plant-based Carnauba. This allows the wood to breathe, prevents it from absorbing water or dirt, and preserves its beautiful light color. The waxing provides a longer service life and a pleasantly smooth handle, helping prevent blisters. In addition, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
ATLAS spade handles are manufactured entirely climate-neutrally in the Netherlands and are available in various lengths and versions.
