YD handle ATLAS made of ash wood, bent handle with a metal D-grip, length 110 cm. The comfortable YD grip of this handle consists of a strong metal bracket fitted with an ash wood grip. This handle is often used together with a potato fork, beet fork, silage fork, debris fork, or a grain shovel.
ATLAS YD handles are made from ash rootstock, which contains the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-absorbing, and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process, sawn ash wood boards are air-dried. During the second process, the ash wood is computer-controlled re-dried in a climate chamber. By re-drying, the handle does not shrink, and tools stay firmly fixed to the handle.
Next, the ATLAS shovel handles are bent in boiling water. This allows the wood grain or fiber in the handle to bend along with it and prevents the grain from running out of the handle (a running grain is weaker). The bending process makes the handle extremely strong.
Finally, the ATLAS handle is waxed with the plant-based Carnauba. This allows the wood to breathe, prevents it from absorbing water or dirt, and preserves its beautiful natural color. The waxing ensures a longer lifespan and a pleasantly smooth handle, helping prevent blisters. In addition, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
ATLAS YD handles are manufactured entirely energy-neutral in the Netherlands and are available in various lengths and versions.
