Plastic D-handle ATLAS of ash wood, straight handle with a plastic D-grip, length 85 cm. This handle has a milled end, suitable for an aluminium ballast shovel with item number 797018. The comfortable PD-grip of this handle consists of a strong plastic grip fitted with an ash wood handpiece. This handle is often used together with a grain shovel, ballast shovel or rubble fork.
ATLAS plastic D-handles are made from ash rootstocks; these contain the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-resistant and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process sawn ash boards are air-dried. During the second process the ash wood is re-dried in a climate chamber under computer control. Because of the re-drying the handle does not shrink, and tools remain firmly attached to the handle.
Next the ATLAS handle is waxed with plant-based carnauba. This ensures the wood can breathe, does not absorb water or dirt and retains its beautiful natural pale colour. Waxing provides a longer service life and a pleasant smooth handle, preventing blisters. Moreover, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
