ATLAS plastic D-handle made of ash wood, bent handle with a plastic D-grip, 95 cm in length. The comfortable D-grip of this handle consists of a strong plastic grip with an ash wood handgrip. This handle is often used together with a grain shovel, ballast shovel or debris fork.
ATLAS plastic D-handles are made from ash rootstock, which contains the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-absorbing and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process, sawn ash wood planks are air-dried. During the second process, the ash wood is computer-controlled re-dried in a climate chamber. Because of the re-drying, the handle does not shrink, so tools stay firmly attached to the handle.
The ATLAS plastic D-handles are then bent in boiling water. This allows the wood grain or fiber in the handle to bend along with it and prevents the grain from running out of the handle (a run-out grain is weaker). The bending process makes the handle extremely strong.
Finally, the ATLAS handle is waxed with plant-based Carnauba. This allows the wood to breathe, prevents it from absorbing water or dirt, and preserves its beautiful natural color. Waxing ensures a longer lifespan and a pleasantly smooth handle, which helps prevent blisters. In addition, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
