YD handle ATLAS made of ash wood, bent handle with a metal D-handle and ferrule, in a length of 95 cm. The comfortable YD-handle of this handle consists of a strong metal bracket fitted with an ash wood grip. The handle is equipped with a ferrule and hole and is used together with a silage fork or potato fork with shank.
ATLAS YD handles are made from ash rootstocks, which contain the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-absorbing, and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process, sawn ash wood boards are air-dried. During the second process, the ash wood is computer-controlled dried back in a climate chamber. Because of this drying back, the handle does not shrink, and tools stay firmly fixed to the handle.
Next, the ATLAS shovel handles are bent in boiling water. This causes the wood grain or fiber in the handle to bend along with it and prevents the grain from running out of the handle (a running grain is weaker). The bending process makes the handle extremely strong.
Finally, the ATLAS handle is waxed with the plant-based Carnauba. This ensures that the wood can breathe, does not absorb water or dirt, and retains its beautiful natural color. Waxing provides a longer service life and a pleasantly smooth handle, helping prevent blisters. Moreover, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
