Spade handle ATLAS of ash wood, length 80 cm, fitted with a strong through-mount T-grip and a milled, smooth, extra-narrow tip. Because the end of this handle is 3 mm thinner, it is suitable for an old model Spear & Jackson spade. This handle has the same length as the original Spear & Jackson spade handle. For assembly a 40 mm rivet is recommended (article number 651590, including assembly advice).
ATLAS spade handles are made from ash root sections, which contain the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-resistant and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process sawn ash planks are air-dried. During the second process the ash wood is re-dried in a climate chamber controlled by computer. By re-drying the handle does not shrink, tools remain firmly attached to the handle and the through-mount T-grip can be pressed onto the handle without glue or a staple.
Subsequently the ATLAS handles are waxed with plant-based Carnauba. This ensures that the wood can breathe, does not absorb water or dirt and retains its beautiful natural colour. Waxing provides a longer service life and a pleasant smooth handle, preventing blisters. Moreover, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
ATLAS spade handles are manufactured completely energy-neutral in the Netherlands and are available in various lengths and versions.
