ATLAS spade handle made of ash wood, 80 cm long, equipped with a strong through-mount T-grip and a recessed, smooth, extra-narrow point. Because the end of this handle is 3 mm thinner, it is suitable for an old model Spear & Jackson spade. This handle has the same length as the original Spear & Jackson spade handle. For assembly, a 40 mm rivet is recommended (item number 651590, including assembly advice).
ATLAS spade handles are made from ash rootstock, which contains the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-resistant, and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process, sawn ash wood boards are air-dried. During the second process, the ash wood is computer-controlled re-dried in a climate chamber. Because of the re-drying, the handle does not shrink, tools remain rock-solid on the handle, and the through-mount T-grip can be pressed onto the handle without glue or a staple.
Next, the ATLAS handles are waxed with plant-based Carnauba. This ensures that the wood can breathe, does not absorb water or dirt, and retains its beautiful light color. The waxing provides a longer service life and a pleasantly smooth handle, helping prevent blisters. Moreover, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
