Britta spade handle ATLAS made of ash wood, 95 cm in length, equipped with a smooth, narrow point and a strong through-mount T-grip. This handle is suitable, among other things, for Ideal Britta spades with double springs. For assembly, a 50 mm rivet is recommended (item number 651620, including assembly advice).
ATLAS Britta spade handles are made from ash rootstock, which contains the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-resistant, and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process, sawn ash wood boards are air-dried. During the second process, the ash wood is computer-controlled re-dried in a climate chamber. Because of the re-drying, the handle does not shrink, tools stay firmly attached to the handle, and the through-mount T-grip can be pressed onto the handle without glue or a staple.
The spade handles are then bent in boiling water. This causes the wood grain or fiber in the handle to bend along with it and prevents the grain from running out of the handle (a running grain is weaker). The bending process makes the handle extremely strong.
Finally, the ATLAS handles are waxed with the plant-based Carnauba. This allows the wood to breathe, prevents it from absorbing water or dirt, and preserves its beautiful natural color. The waxing ensures a longer service life and a pleasantly smooth handle, which helps prevent blisters. Moreover, waxing handles with a plant-based wax is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
