Knob handle ATLAS of ash wood, straight handle without grip, length 110 cm. This handle has an unmilled end, suitable for Spear & Jackson spades with a lip.
ATLAS knob handles are made from ash rootstocks; this contains the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-absorbing and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process the sawn ash planks are air-dried. During the second process the ash wood is re-dried in a climate chamber under computer control. Because of the re-drying the handle does not shrink and tools remain firmly fixed to the handle.
Subsequently the ATLAS handle is waxed with plant-based Carnauba. This ensures that the wood can breathe, does not absorb water or dirt, and retains its beautiful natural light color. Waxing provides a longer lifespan and a pleasant smooth handle, preventing blisters. Moreover, waxing handles with a plant-based wax is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
ATLAS knob handles are manufactured entirely energy-neutral in the Netherlands and are available in various versions.
