ATLAS metal D-handle made of ash wood, bent handle with a metal D-grip, length 95 cm. The comfortable YD-grip of this handle consists of a strong metal bracket fitted with an ash wood grip. This handle is often used together with a potato fork, beet fork, silage fork, debris fork, or a grain shovel.
ATLAS metal D-handles are made from ash rootstock, which contains the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-absorbing, and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process, sawn ash wood boards are air-dried. During the second process, the ash wood is computer-controlled kiln-dried in a climate chamber. Because of this redrying, the handle does not shrink, and the tool stays firmly attached to the handle.
Next, the ATLAS shovel handles are bent in boiling water. This causes the wood grain or fibers in the handle to bend along with it, preventing the grain from running out of the handle (a running grain is weaker). The bending process makes the handle extremely strong.
Finally, the ATLAS handle is waxed with plant-based Carnauba. This allows the wood to breathe, prevents it from absorbing water or dirt, and preserves its beautiful natural color. The waxing ensures a longer lifespan and a pleasantly smooth handle, helping prevent blisters. In addition, waxing handles with plant-based wax is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
ATLAS metal D-handles are manufactured entirely in the Netherlands in an energy-neutral way and are available in various lengths and versions.
