ATLAS shovel handles are made from ash rootstocks, which contain the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-absorbing and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process sawn ash planks are air-dried. During the second process the ash wood is computer-controlled re-dried in a climate chamber. Because of the re-drying the handle does not shrink, tools remain firmly fixed to the handle and the through-mount T-grip can be pressed onto the handle without glue or a staple.
Subsequently the ATLAS handle is waxed with plant-based Carnauba. This ensures the wood can breathe, does not absorb water or dirt and retains its attractive natural light colour. Waxing provides a longer service life and a pleasant smooth handle, which prevents blisters. Moreover, waxing handles with plant-based wax is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
ATLAS shovel handles are manufactured completely energy-neutral in the Netherlands and are available in various lengths and versions.
