Spade handle ATLAS made of ash wood with a length of 70 cm, equipped with a T-grip and a recessed, smooth, narrow point, suitable for a Spear & Jackson spade or ATLAS gooseneck spade. This handle is 10 cm shorter than the original Spear & Jackson spade handle. For assembly, a 40 mm rivet is recommended (article number 651590, including assembly advice).
ATLAS spade handles are made from ash rootstock, which contains the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-resistant, and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process, sawn ash wood boards are air-dried. During the second process, the ash wood is computer-controlled re-dried in a climate chamber. Because of the re-drying, the handle does not shrink and tools stay firmly attached to the handle.
The ATLAS handles are then waxed with the plant-based Carnauba. This allows the wood to breathe, prevents it from absorbing water or dirt, and preserves its beautiful light color. The waxing provides a longer service life and a pleasantly smooth handle, helping prevent blisters. In addition, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
ATLAS spade handles are entirely manufactured energy-neutral in the Netherlands and are available in various lengths and versions.
