Spade handle ATLAS made of ash wood, 75 cm long, fitted with a T-grip and a recessed, smooth, narrow tang, suitable for a Spear & Jackson spade or ATLAS gooseneck spade. This handle is 5 cm shorter than the original Spear & Jackson spade handle. For assembly, a 40 mm rivet is recommended (item number 651590, including assembly advice).
ATLAS spade handles are made from ash rootstock, which contains the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-resistant, and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process, sawn ash wood boards are air-dried. During the second process, the ash wood is computer-controlled kiln-dried in a climate chamber. Because of the re-drying, the handle does not shrink and tools stay firmly attached to the handle.
The ATLAS handles are then waxed with plant-based carnauba. This allows the wood to breathe, prevents it from absorbing water or dirt, and preserves its beautiful natural color. Waxing provides a longer service life and a pleasantly smooth handle, which helps prevent blisters. In addition, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
ATLAS spade handles are entirely manufactured in the Netherlands with energy neutrality and are available in various lengths and designs.
