ATLAS spade handle made of ash wood, 110 cm in length, equipped with a T-grip and a milled-in, smooth, narrow point, suitable for a Spear & Jackson spade or ATLAS gooseneck spade. This handle is 30 cm longer than the original Spear & Jackson spade handle. For assembly, a 40 mm rivet is recommended (item number 651590, including assembly advice).
ATLAS spade handles are made from ash rootstock, which contains the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-resistant, and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process, sawn ash wood boards are air-dried. During the second process, the ash wood is computer-controlled and re-dried in a climate chamber. Because of this re-drying, the handle does not shrink and the tool remains firmly fixed to the handle.
The ATLAS handles are then waxed with plant-based Carnauba. This allows the wood to breathe, does not absorb water or dirt, and retains its beautiful light color. Waxing provides a longer lifespan and a pleasantly smooth handle, helping prevent blisters. Moreover, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
ATLAS spade handles are manufactured entirely carbon-neutral in the Netherlands and are available in various lengths and designs.
