ATLAS pitchfork handles are made from ash rootstock, which contains the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-absorbing and strong. The ash undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process sawn ash boards are air-dried. During the second process the ash is re-dried in a computer-controlled climate chamber. Because of the re-drying the handle does not shrink and the tool head remains firmly attached to the handle.
Subsequently the ATLAS handle is waxed with plant-based Carnauba wax. This ensures that the wood can breathe, does not absorb water or dirt and retains its nice natural color. The waxing provides a longer service life and a pleasant smooth handle, preventing blisters. Moreover, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
