Hickory is a heavy, hard American wood species that is even stronger than ash. Hickory wood is exceptionally tough, shock-resistant, and resilient. The ATLAS hickory handle is also waxed with plant-based carnauba. This allows the wood to breathe, prevents it from absorbing water or dirt, and preserves its beautiful natural color. The waxing provides a longer service life and a pleasantly smooth handle, helping prevent blisters. In addition, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
ATLAS hickory axe handles are manufactured largely energy-neutral in the Netherlands and are available in various lengths and designs.
