The bent Atlas shovel handle is made from ash wood butt logs, which contain the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-absorbing, and strong. The ash wood has been computer-controlled redried in a climate chamber. This prevents the handle from shrinking, keeps tools firmly attached to the handle, and allows the through-mount T-grip to be pressed onto the handle without glue or a staple.
Atlas handles are bent in boiling water. This allows the wood grain or fibers in the handle to bend along with it and prevents the grain from running out of the handle. The bending process makes the handle extremely strong. In addition, the Atlas handle is waxed with vegetable-based Carnauba, which ensures a longer service life and a pleasantly smooth handle, helping to prevent blisters.
