Hickory is a heavy, hard American wood species that is even stronger than ash wood. Hickory wood is exceptionally tough, impact-resistant, and resilient. The ATLAS hickory handle is also waxed with plant-based carnauba wax. This allows the wood to breathe, does not absorb water or dirt, and retains its beautiful natural color. The waxing ensures a longer service life and a pleasantly smooth handle, helping prevent blisters. In addition, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
