Spade handle ATLAS made of ash wood, 85 cm in length, equipped with a strong through-mount T-grip and a recessed, smooth, narrow point, suitable for a Spear & Jackson spade or ATLAS gooseneck spade. This handle is 5 cm longer than the original Spear & Jackson spade handle. For assembly, a 40 mm rivet is recommended (item number 651590, including assembly advice).
ATLAS spade handles are made from ash rootstock, which contains the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-resistant, and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process, sawn ash wood boards are air-dried. During the second process, the ash wood is re-dried in a climate chamber using computer control. By re-drying, the handle does not shrink, the tool stays firmly attached to the handle, and the through-mount T-grip can be pressed onto the handle without glue or a staple.
The ATLAS handles are then waxed with plant-based Carnauba. This allows the wood to breathe, prevents it from absorbing water or dirt, and preserves its attractive natural color. Waxing provides a longer service life and a pleasantly smooth handle, helping prevent blisters. In addition, waxing handles with plant-based wax is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
ATLAS spade handles are manufactured entirely climate-neutral in the Netherlands and are available in various lengths and designs.
