Spade handle ATLAS of ash wood, length 110 cm, equipped with a T-grip and a milled end, smooth, narrow point, suitable for a Spear & Jackson spade or ATLAS gooseneck spade. This handle is 30 cm longer than the original Spear & Jackson spade handle. For assembly, a 40 mm rivet is recommended (article number 651590, including assembly advice).
ATLAS spade handles are made from ash rootstocks, which contain the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-resistant and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process sawn ash wood boards are air-dried. During the second process the ash wood is re-dried in a computer-controlled climate chamber. Because of the re-drying the handle does not shrink and tools remain firmly attached to the handle.
Next, the ATLAS handles are waxed with plant-based carnauba wax. This ensures that the wood can breathe, does not absorb water or dirt, and retains its beautiful natural color. The waxing provides a longer lifespan and a pleasant smooth handle, preventing blisters. Moreover, waxing handles with plant-based wax is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
