ATLAS ash wood spade handle with a length of 85 cm, fitted with a T-grip and a smooth, narrow point, suitable among other things for a Spear & Jackson spade with a socket. This handle is 5 cm longer than the original Spear & Jackson spade handle. For assembly, a 50 mm rivet is recommended (article number 651620, including assembly advice).
ATLAS spade handles are made from ash rootstocks, which contain the best wood. Ash wood is tough, impact-resistant, and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process, sawn ash wood boards are air-dried. During the second process, the ash wood is computer-controlled re-dried in a climate chamber. Because of the re-drying, the handle does not shrink and the tool stays firmly attached to the handle.
The ATLAS handles are then waxed with plant-based Carnauba. This allows the wood to breathe, prevents it from absorbing water or dirt, and preserves its beautiful light color. Waxing provides a longer lifespan and a pleasantly smooth handle, helping prevent blisters. In addition, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
ATLAS spade handles are manufactured entirely carbon-neutral in the Netherlands and are available in various lengths and designs.
