Spade handle ATLAS made of ash wood, 80 cm in length, equipped with a fiber core, a T-grip, and a milled-in, smooth, narrow point, suitable for a Spear & Jackson spade or ATLAS gooseneck spade. The handle is equipped with an almost unbreakable 21 mm thick fiberglass reinforcement. This fiberglass rod is milled into the lower side of the handle. The handle has the same length as the original Spear & Jackson spade handle. For assembly, a 40 mm rivet is recommended (item number 651590, including assembly advice).
ATLAS spade handles are made from ash rootstock, which contains the best wood. Ash wood is tough, shock-resistant, and strong. The ash wood undergoes two drying processes: during the first drying process, sawn ash wood boards are air-dried. During the second process, the ash wood is computer-controlled re-dried in a climate chamber. Because of this re-drying, the handle does not shrink and tools stay firmly attached to the handle.
Next, the ATLAS handles are waxed with plant-based Carnauba. This allows the wood to breathe, does not absorb water or dirt, and preserves its beautiful light color. The waxing ensures a longer lifespan and a pleasantly smooth handle, helping prevent blisters. In addition, plant-based waxing of handles is better for the environment than using varnish or paraffin.
ATLAS spade handles are manufactured completely energy-neutral in the Netherlands and are available in various lengths and versions.
