Forged clay spade, round-shaped model. Polished, forged, hollow-ground, and equipped with a strong ATLAS T-handle with a length of 95 cm. This clay spade Betuwe model is forged from one block of iron, smoothly polished, and has a distinctive sharp hollow edge. The hollow edge makes it possible to cut or dig into soil very precisely. Due to the former Merkus forge in Elst, this product is still sold mainly in the Betuwe region. Atlas handles are made from ash wood, are bent in boiling water (these are extra strong because the grain follows the curve), are mirror-smooth waxed (prevents blisters), and are dried in a climate chamber (the handle does not shrink and the tool stays firmly attached).
